Established in 1998, Cambodia Health Education Media Service (CHEMS) disseminates health information and advice to people in Cambodia through interactive mass media broadcasts. Our innovative and culturally appropriate multi-media campaigns feature on television, radio, in print and within the performing arts.
CHEMS is most well-known for the popular radio program called "Especially for You, Young People" and a health-focused radio soap opera called "Lotus on a Muddy Lake” Both of these program are made by young people for young people and incorporate media produced by young people in rural Cambodia. These programs are extremely popular and garner some of the highest listening levels in the country for drama and call-in programs.
We also focus on maternal health issues, informing and influencing changes in attitudes and behaviors related to family planning, pregnancy and birth. We are achieving this through the production of innovative, informative and entertaining television and radio spots, a radio call-in program, radio drama and 20 part television drama series.
CHEMS also trains young people in sexual reproductive health and media skills, along with advocacy and empowerment. Through our outreach activities, young people work with government and the NGO sector to improve reproductive health care services and youth reproductive rights.
